Artist Biographies
Mavron Quartet
Since 2002, Mavron Quartet has fused artistic excellence with a passion for innovative outreach, inspiring audiences and engaging communities. The Quartet is dedicated to blending classical repertoire with fresh contemporary pieces. In 2010, the quartet became the first ever Ensemble in Residence at St David’s Hall, alongside a residency at the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff.
The Mavron Quartet, led by founding member Christiana Mavron, has developed a reputation for musical quality which is evident throughout its performance history. Frequently giving recitals at St David’s Hall and venues across the UK, performances include the showcasing of new works from composers such as Mark Slater, Tom Green, Tim Raymond, Rhian Samuel, Charlie Barber, Mervyn Burtch and Peter Reynolds. Alongside these new works, traditional repertoire is well represented in the Quartet’s concert programmes. Prestigious recital venues include the Senedd, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Lancaster House, Windsor Castle, and Buckingham Palace.
Over its lifetime the Mavron Quartet has been recognised as Junior Fellows in Chamber Music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and appointed Young Artists in Residence at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival.
The Mavron Quartet is passionate about working within communities, inspiring the growth of musical appreciation and keeping the chamber music genre alive. This includes representing the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust in Wales since 2003 and partnering with Live Music Now Cymru to bring the joy of chamber music to disadvantaged communities.
The Mavron Quartet takes great pride in collaborating with other outstanding artists, including The Gentle Good, pianist Llŷr Williams, clarinetist Michael Collins, Cian Ciarán, Gildas. They have also performed at Glastonbury, Brecon Jazz and Green Man festivals.
Recent projects have included tours of venues across Wales premiering two new works – The Worlds Wife By Tom Green and Charlie Barber’s Radio Amore.
